Why did you begin martial arts training? Why do you continue to train?
I can’t exactly answer what made me say “yes” one day as opposed to the dozens of times I had said “no” before other than it was exactly the right time, and it was something I was meant to do. I continue to train because Tae Kwon Do is the first thing in my life that I have stuck with when I was not automatically good at it. Usually, if I could not master an activity and “win” pretty quickly, I moved on to the next activity.
What is your favorite phrase that you hear Master Butler use? Why?
“Ichi-go Ichi-e” – appreciate the nature and essence of every moment, as they will never happen the same way again. Too often we all get caught up in wanting to do over/do better/do again when what we should really do is be the best version of ourselves at that moment, and be content that we did our best at that time…then move on with confidence to the next moment, and do it all again!
What is a quote that inspires you?
I have two favorite quotes by actress Audrey Hepburn:
“Nothing is impossible, the word itself says ‘I’M POSSIBLE.”
“People, even more than things, have to be restored, renewed, revived, reclaimed, and redeemed. Never throw out anyone.”
Where is your favorite place to visit on a vacation?
Beaches, almost anywhere!
Who is your favorite superhero?
Black Widow – a strong female character who worked hard on her personal redemption.
Derrick Allenbrand
My son is attending the academy since he was 4 years old, he is now 16 and he continues to be engaged and is very excited to attend his classes. For me, the main reason is that Master Mike is always working to provide value and to challenge him. I truthfully recommend Hero Academy!
My son has learned so much in his years at Hero Martial Arts. So much more than just martial arts - work ethic, respect, responsibility and leadership. Plus a staff that feels like family and goes above and beyond, especially in the last few topsy turvy pandemic years, to come up with creative ways to keep training and keep the kids engaged throughout.
Our son started as a Little Hero almost two years ago and loves coming to class. He has learned so much and we truly appreciate the patience you all have with him. He struggles with focus and Master Neibling nows the right words to help him refocus his energy. I joined the class last October and i am truly enjoying myself. I’m learning, trying and do things I have never done before and it feels great! We love it here!!!
